Third Survey Results

Results of the third community survey were presented, which can be found here.

There are two big takeaways from the survey. First, there is approximately 75% support for keeping the current tax rate constant and raising approximately $12,000,000 in bond funds for facility improvements. Second, every project identified as a primary need by the community has over 50% support from respondents.

Project Selection

With strong support shown in the survey, and over 80% support within the meeting by show of hands for the $12,000,000 version of the bond, the task of fitting the proposed projects into the bond budget was undertaken by the meeting participants. The entire scope of proposed projects started at $22,800,000, putting the task of cutting nearly half the cost of proposed projects to fit within the bond budget.

Over the course of approximately an hour, the community discussed the varied needs and desires of various groups within the community and how best to serve the students of Brady ISD. Through this thorough and wide ranging conversation, a consensus developed that all the proposed projects are important to the community and should be included in the bond to the extent possible, with a few of the smaller projects to be handled with maintenance funds.

Although exact funding was not reached, it was agreed that the following projects be recommended to the board to be included in the bond:

  • Improvements to Brady Elementary School;
  • Career Center;
  • Security improvements for all campuses;
  • Softball & Baseball Complex;
  • New Auditorium.

Moving Forward

This was the third and final planned Town Hall for to engage the community on facility needs and improvements. Moving forward, the community is encouraged to discuss the bond with their board member. The board will be discussing the bond and the community recommendations at the December board meeting.
